An interview for the job is set up, now what?
So I've been looking for a new job for the last few months and have had at least one interview a week. Having gone through all of these interviews, I've come up with a few tips that should apply to any industry.
1) Be prepared! Make sure you anticipate questions that the interviewer will ask. Prepare responses for at least 10 questions (biggest accomplishment,a failure you experienced, times you disagreed with a co-workers, etc). Have an up to date, professional looking resume to leave with the interviewer. There are several good examples online that you can follow.
2) Find out who you are interviewing with and look up their background online. You may find some topic to relate with the interviewer. Research the company as well. Interviewers love it when you are passionate about their company. Share how you think you would be a good fit with this company and why you'd enjoy being a part of their team.
3) Dress for success. For women and men, I suggest wearing a professional outfit that fits the job you're applying for. You can't over dress for a business interview. If you have to go in for a follow up interview you can dress down a little but for guys, I still recommend wearing a sport coat.
4) Send a thank you note! Follow-up with the interviewer in 1-2 business days letting them know that you enjoyed meeting with them. If you are going through a recruiter, ask the recruiter to forward on your message. It makes you look good and shows you're interested in the job. It also reminds them of who you are.
